NAMM's Last Day

Today Jay and I trekked back into Anaheim for the last day of the NAMM show, namely to see our old friend Norm Stockton play in the morning (at the Roland Booth) with Lincoln Brewster. (Lincoln Brewster is a SERIOUS guitar player, worship leader/songwriter, pretty big in the Christian Music scene. Oh, and btw, if Jay Dyrland ever reads this, Lincoln Brewster TOTALLY reminded me of him -- just wanted to let him know...)

It was pretty cool, they played a "mini-church-service" type thing right in the middle of the NAMM show -- and Lincoln was wailing all over the guitar, while we got to watch Norm play bass -- and sing!

Afterwards we all got together for a picture. We got to meet Norm's wife, who is super cool, she just finished a CD as well, which she gave to me. And the highlight (for me) was meeting the Executive Editor of Worship Leader Magazine (HELLO!!) she was sitting right in front of us and just happened to turn around and was introduced!! So I immediately did a "so you're the editor where....??" and told her I was a graphic designer and gave her my card -- don't know if anything will happen, but we'll see ... I'll be sending a courtesy email tomorrow.

I guess after all this crazy weekend, it's back to life as 'usual' for the Huzils. It's nice to finally come back to a place, that although is new still for us, holds some familiarity, enough to feel safety here.



L.A. is a literal rat-race, and it smells, I don't know if it's the smog or maybe just the scent of greed, lust, and other humanity. But it's good to be back in San Diego.

hey darlin... i love lincoln brewster! he rocks. what an experience... i'm glad you have a home to return to, tho. i know how important it is to have that 'safe place'... i'm recording my two new worship songs, and i'm going to send them to you. love em.

If I ever wondered if HE loved me

So, I'm going to admit how pathetic and "of little faith" I can be with this post. Of course, there needs to be a bit of prelude-type explanation. On Nov. 20th my husband and I will celebrate a special anniversary -- 4 years since leaving our home -- the only one we've known in Sherwood Park, Canada -- and driving, with only our car, clothes and guitars across the border and down, down, down to San Diego, California. (that's 1751 miles south) Our reason for the move was to pursue our music, our mission and our dreams and just a new life, pioneers of sorts. It would take me many blogs to say how many times God has shown me his love through the whole process, from easy stops at border crossings, to precisely timed Visa interviews, to lenient border guards, to miracles in paperwork and finding jobs, it is astounding how He has continually provided for us, and continually strengthens my faith through circumstance. Studio Feb 13th . 2010

So this weekend we went into the studio, Ground Level Sound, in Vista, CA to track drums for our album ... we did four songs yesterday and began one today (Unwanted Man, shown above), but then our producers computer crashed (!!!), so we had to leave early (only one hour after we got there) and he is now in the process as I type of retrieving the files that were lost when his drive became corrupt =(, I feel mostly bad for him, as he literally had a whole month of projects in jeopardy. I've racked my brain a bit today as to why this would have happened, and I have no answers, we're a bit deflated but all the more excited about getting these tracks done. We don't know if our songs from yesterday are o.k. or not yet, but we'll keep you posted, if all goes well, we'll be back at the studio to finish up. Please keep us in your prayers, for the completion of the tracks and album, and our producer too, Alan, his father in law is in the hospital right now with a broken neck...
