Rockin' in the Free World

Image
Some Rock star pictures, on request from Jay ... this was part of what our show looked like on Saturday. Photos were taken by our good friend Andy McElroy -- who's skills on the camera are MAD! Check out his blog (see our sidebar) for details.... The week is going good, but busy. I will be leading worship this Saturday night (the new night for our church service) for the first time ALL BY MYSELF. I am a little worried, I may even play acoustic ... but that would be pushing me quite a bit, but maybe that's what God wants to do ... I don't know. Our church was meeting in a school gym, but we had to leave because our lease was up so a church named Existence has opened it's doors to us to share thier building. It's pretty cool, and it's exciting to actually have a building, to not have to tear down and set up everytime. Other than that, work is trucking away. I am almost through the crunch I think ... and I'm looking forward to hanging on on Sat. morning with...

Rocks and Flocks

This weekend Jay and I played a show (our first official California gig) at the Sera Mesa Rec. Centre ... aparently the show will make the community paper highlights ... there was a small turnout, but overall was pretty fun, although I've come to the unofficial conclusion that I think from now on, I'd only really like to do either our own music, or worship music, not just a bunch of rock-raging covers, it was still a cool experience. By far the highlight for me was belting out "Somebody to Love" by Jefferson Airplane... In honour of the gig I adopted a some new locks. Jay rocked out and we spent our afternoon at O.B. just hangin' with the locals and celebrating Jay's "pre-birthday" (yep, his birthday is in fact tomorrow!!!) For the families: Jay got some surf-board wax and a beach towel for his birthday. We'll go our tomorrow night to our fav. sushi place to eat and celebrate his FIRST Birthday here in California. Sometimes it seems so surreal th...

It's only Tuesday

Oh, this week.... This week has been crazy, actually, the last week and a half = nutz I'll have to keep things brief, for the sake of the fact that there are a myriad of things I should be doing, eventhough I really want to blog ... so ... (deep breath) Last Wed. I took a pottery class from a guy who works with Jay who is a TOTAL pro!!!! I'm so excited, I'll continue my lessons, but prob. starting next week, since this week is a write off. Jay and I will be playing our first official show this Sat. (sort of official) we're doing alot of covers, it's a FREE community concert, but we'll sneak in some original Sweeteverafter flavour, should be totally fun, and I was laughing inside, because to date, I've never had to do the whole "cover band" thing, I guess I'm set for an adventure. We have to play for like three hours, cause the other two bands backed out ... the photo is the band, Jay, Rick on drums and a guy named Vince, who is pretty darn cool...

The New Adventures of Old Point Loma Towers

SIDEBAR -- Cutest dog in the world this week ... sorry Amanda --------------- Well, we've finally moved into our new "old" place, we got the keys this morning. The first thing I did? Sleep I crawled onto our bed and curled up into our comforter (in my clothes) and crashed for about an hour and a half. Even now, I feel so tired, but I am beginning to feel relieved. My weekend, was amazing. I spent it as a "facilitator" at the Southern California HOBY Leadership Conference in San Marcos, which is just 40mins north of San Diego. I met some of the brightest young people EVER. Seriously, one of the first questions I was asked by one of the kids? Was I "Democrat or Republican" ... to which I replied, "I'm Canadian", so as to avert any further political discuss. I couldn't believe these kids actually CARE about politics, policy, business and making a difference, they're planning to be doctors and presidents and astronauts, etc's ......

Freedom

After a week of, utter bizzarement (is that a word?) yesterday we moved (uh, yah, again) OUT of Werners' house and BACK to Point Loma Towers (dif. suite & bldg., same complex). We are having to wait until our money wire clears @ our bank before we can "officially" move in and have the keys, but our gracious landlords allowed us to move all our stuff in ahead of time because of the situation. Through the whole week we have had the amazing support of "family" here (aka friends) and people have stood beside us, prayed for us, and encouraged us. What has come out of it all, for me, is a deep sense that no matter what happens in this situation, we are called to be like Christ, in EVERY situation. Not just when times are good and it's easy to love others because they're amazing friends. But to really love those who have insulted, mocked, or harmed you in any way, because Jesus endured on the Cross, all these things and more. (All these thoughts came to me ...

Who can we trust?

So, after talking about how I am not inspired to blog, here I am, less than 12 hours after my most recent post, posting yet again. Some (very recent) developments in the Huzil household ~ we have been asked to leave Werner's house, which, after events which have transpired over the last 4 days, is not a real surprise to me ... although I am feeling rather (surprisingly?) hurt, and angry over the whole ordeal. It stems to a series of events, conversations between Jay and Werner ... things that were said (literally and spiritually). Which always makes things that much more elusive to pinpoint to something. Now Werner thinks we're hypocrites (which, I guess I can't blame him) and we've seen a side of him that is less than lovely, hurt (and in my humble opinion, proves in my heart things that are left unsaid) It is always difficult, when you battle with things that are not flesh and blood, and I only say this because I really truly feel that is what is taking place, whether...

Not too much, but oh, the stories...

Well, my absentee-ism on this blog is for good reason. I seem to have lost my battery charger for my digital camera, and hence, have not been photo-documenting my life, and, hence, have failed to find the desire to blog. However this week has also been very busy, strange and beautifully exciting, all at the same time. We moved on Tues. (which was pretty uneventful, except that I think the movers were smoking a little "wacky-tabbacky") but they were sweet guys, I gave them some cookies. (munchies?) The house situation is pretty interesting, I'm getting used to being the only female in the household, we all try to get along, and keep the dishes done, and not eat anyone elses food. I keep thinking that perhaps ground rules should be set, or, I don't know. Bottom line is I think once the summer is done we may try to move down to an area called "OB" or Ocean Beach. It's a little beach town, actually right next door to Point Loma (where we used to live). It...
