Rocks and Flocks

This weekend Jay and I played a show (our first official California gig) at the Sera Mesa Rec. Centre ... aparently the show will make the community paper highlights ... there was a small turnout, but overall was pretty fun, although I've come to the unofficial conclusion that I think from now on, I'd only really like to do either our own music, or worship music, not just a bunch of rock-raging covers, it was still a cool experience. By far the highlight for me was belting out "Somebody to Love" by Jefferson Airplane...

In honour of the gig I adopted a some new locks.

and we spent our afternoon at O.B. just hangin' with the locals and celebrating Jay's "pre-birthday" (yep, his birthday is in fact tomorrow!!!) For the families: Jay got some surf-board wax and a beach towel for his birthday. We'll go our tomorrow night to our fav. sushi place to eat and celebrate his FIRST Birthday here in California.

Sometimes it seems so surreal that we're here. Others' it seems like it was meant to be, and that life was simply a holding pattern till we arrived here.

Life has so many twists and turns. So many people, so different, and yet we're all somehow similar. We all have dreams, and in the words of Chad Furlong, from this morning, we're all looking to have our lives justified. In some way or another, we all seek to have our life be "worth" something, be here for something. But the truth of the matter is, we dont' have the power to do that -- only God can. Only that unexplainable spiritual hole can be filled, nurtured, and grown into a beautiful living, breathing, thriving, God-glorifying thing, with His touch. It's mesmerizing and undeniable at the same time.

On a different note, we were awoken this morning by a flock of parrots -- yep, I'm totally not kidding, parrots, noisy as heck. Beautiful green birds, they made so much noise, that, in Jay's words "if they weren't so pretty you'd want to shoot them." Who needs a radio alarm when you have these things ... check out the video....oh the noise =)
