Oh, well, it's time for an update on Amy's (& consequently Jay's) lives here in Sunny Southern California. As of late, as people have been asking me how I've been doing, or how things are going, I've replied a steady "oh, you know, just the usus." or "just trucking along" or "nothing crazy, just same old". Same Old. I've made the self realization that I've been saying that to others (and myself) but in reality, things are progressing, changing, my brain is constantly thinking -- but I feel like what is really going on in life seems mundane, or ordinary, or maybe not important enough to share, so hence I just end up saying "oh you know, same old". Well, really it's not, so here we go... Here is what's going on in life in general for me. I went to the doctor for the FIRST TIME since we moved down here last Friday as I had a minor "feminine issue" which needed medicating, of which I am now on and...

To be (perfect), or not to be?

Why are we so obsessed with what we think perfection is? As North American's we're so incredibly obsessed with appearances, what's on the outside, what characteristics we've got (or not) that I'm sure it's a million dollar business in tweaking photos, airbrushing this or that (or another thing) to make things seem as they are not, in order to appeal to the most impeccable and critical eyes and come out on top. Working in the marketing dept. I've noticed that we do that a lot. And it's part of our job, to touch up photos, pick flattering angles. We make wrinkles disappear, smooth clothing lines, even (dare I say it) "exchange" certain parts for others. It's just part of our job. This morning the director of Marketing Communications came to Creative Services and asked that we take the "head" from one photo of her little boy and place it on the still photo of another because his face was not "as cute" in the first pict...

Our Show (to me) was amazing, there is nothing quite like sharing the something that's so personal and close to your heart, with so many friends that we had show -- including some of the girls I work with, our neighbors (past and present) and Jay's work buds. The sound was not amazing I guess, though I didn't notice at all -- and we had a bunch of people taking pics and one guy that Jay works with video taping (for our viewing pleasure, or horror, at a later date!) Our set is 8 solid songs about 45 mins worth of material, but we were asked to cut one song short because of time, and I felt like everything literally FLEW by my face. In fact, there was one point where Jay started playing the intro to our "middle song" Dead Flowers and I was SURE he was making a mistake because I wasn't even aware we'd already blasted through the first three songs of our set! It's amazing how that works. But in all honesty, I enjoyed it, I hope my friends did too. I don...

It's the eve of our show tomorrow @ the Boar Crossin' here in our little home town of Carlsbad California. I am expectant, a little butter-fly-ish, but mostly very excited. I feel alot like I am "pulling all the stops" like this could be our most important show to date. I have no doubt there will be many more, but so far the trip to this thought has been littered with some surprising new understandings. "Pay to Play" down here is ridiculously prevalent, I'm amazed at how many people call themselves "promoters" yet all they do is get your foot into the club, let you sell tickets to your own shows, promote your own shows and pay them if you don't sell enough. One guy asks for $200 -- it's a monopoly I don't really feel like I want to be a part of, so I'm hangin' tight that there are other things in store for us. We have a lot of friends coming out tomorrow too, which I am really excited for. A lot of the girls I work with -...

Ezekiel 37 The Valley of Dry Bones 1 The hand of the LORD was upon me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. 2 He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. 3 He asked me, "Son of man, can these bones live?" I said, "O Sovereign LORD, you alone know." I guess this to me, is the equivalent of some kind of Valley ... on a smaller scale. Today on the beach were strewn for 20-30 feet, hundreds of tiny shells. This is pretty unusual for our beach. I've lived here a year and almost 1/2 and haven't seen anything like this. It makes me marvel and the complexity of life, and death. From the surface the ocean seems so void of life ... just miles of water, waves, if you're lucky one day a dolphin or two. And there are shells, but usually so interspersed and beaten down that your mind pictures nothing but a void of sand for...

Today is Friday -- again -- like the strange revolving door of my life which begin's on Mondays, slow, dreary, dreading the week filled with random boredoms and brief interludes of captured excitements. It's caps on Friday, when I can sit in my little fluorescent-lit cubical and think of Saturday (which is my most favourite day of the week) because: I can just do whatever I want, I'm not bound my a time clock, not bound by "stuff" to do, I can just rest, just be, but mostly I'm not confined, I think that's what I like best about it. My mind has been a swimming sea of thoughts this week. Thinking about the band, our music, work, what I have to do, what i need to get done. It all comes, punctuated by deadlines or events and then leaves to be replaced by the necessities of life and the thoughts of what's next. I'd like to just have the ability to "be". To be comfortable in my skin, in the night, when I lie awake, generally, this last week I...
