The Weekend

Image
We went to a different 'dog friendly' beach this Saturday with Andy and Laura. I love watching Dog's play about ... so cute, to see so many different sizes of little guys running around and loving each other. If only we could be the same. Jay struck a pose Laura and I watching her little 'tike' playing. We're excited -- we're both getting our hair done this week and going for a girl date Saturday: shopping with our other friend from church Erin -- should be fun, I'm excited to ditch my Jay professed 'hippie doo' it'll be a surprise for all... Water Waves Wash over me flooding, filling all I can see Holy Ghost breathe on me Feed me, fill me make me believe I believe your hands sculpt the land your eyes place the skies you are everything and to your heart I bring all I am -- it's all I can

My VENT

Image
This blog is going to be pessimistic ... just a disclaimer I have had a 'tumultuous' couple of days. It's a combination of things, which I'm not going to share necessarily, perhaps another time, but it's built up into what it is today... Emotional Rollercoaster is a better word. I've been feeling like I'm an unstable basket case, and grumpy, very moody... although the days have been spent well, with friends and somewhat relaxing I have just felt 'blah', generally sad and dumpy, and NO I am NOT pregnant. I've come to the conclusion that I hate my 'feelings' because I feel like I can't control them. In a world where we base our situations and our quality of life on 'how am I feeling' at the moment. Seems that the human race in North America is really good at trying to 'feel good' and pretending that we really do, when in reality, we all don't really 'feel good' at all. I don't want to become 'sick...

Misc. Ponderings for the week

Image
This week has been a busy one for me. As we settle into the 'life' of living here in San Diego, it can be easy to fall into sort of a 'complacent' state, ie. not feeling like doing anything... I feel like that today, but I know, I need to keep hammering on with my work, so I decided to blog (so much for work) I'll get to that in 10 mins. Anyways, I had a particularly crazy day yesterday, putting out some 'editorial' fires so to speak and feeling like my head was going to fly off, so I decided to go for a walk down to the neighborhood 'KINKO's" (business center) to send some faxes. Boy, am I glad I went, nothing like getting out of your situation for a moment, looking out into the beautiful blue sky, feeling breeze on your face and marvelling at the created world around you. I am so thankful to be in a place where I can walk and see palm trees and hummingbirds in Feb. It's truly marvelous, I don't understand why the whole world doesn'...

The Beach

Image
It's pouring down rain today (Monday) Today is actually the REAL Presidents Day (my mistake on last Monday). In the United States they celebrate 2 Presidents Birthdays, one week apart, I guess if you're a school teacher or government worker, you get both off. Usually though, it's just today. The weekend was fabulous. I keep consistently feeling like I'm on vacation here, as all the surroundings seem too good to be true. Jay and I made our way to the beach on Saturday, not sure what the day would be like weather wise, but brave nonetheless I donned a bikini top and shorts. The day ended up being spectacular, we hung out in Mission Bay Park, the touristy beach all day. We had lunch at this total little 'beach/biker bar', complete with a steady diet of Hendrix, George Thourogood and Ozzy, while we had one of the best BLT sandwiches ever. (Tomatoes like, 1" thick!) We got a little sun-kissed, and decided that we need to invest in sunscreen if we can get pink in...

God Makes Something from Nothing

Image
I was sitting here this morning, pondering the giant pummello grapefruit that Jay and I bought the other day. It's the largest citrus fruit I have ever seen. It's seriously the size of a canteloupe, and yet its a grapefruit -- it smells like gentle citrus, fresh and clean, like you could drink in the scent all day and not get tired of it -- and it came from nothing. Oh, you may say, but it came from a seed. I guess it did, but where did the seed come from? another plant. Where did the plant come from? A seed, and so on it goes ... so where did the seed come from? Not nothing. I believe that the seed comes from God. And only God can make something (everything we see) from nothing. See, mankind, we create things, and make things, but we always have to start with something. We need materials, motivation, longing and desire. But God gives us the desires of our hearts -- something, from nothing I have found, and will continue to find, that God does what He does best, consistently. H...

Overdue Blog!

Image
(Have you seen this boy?) Well, apologies are due -- it has been awhile, but I do have an excellent excuse -- well, I actually really don't but I had to start this long over-due blog somehow! It's been almost one week. We've had lovely dinners out with friends -- a great Saturday shopping trip, worship on Sunday and today is President's Day, which I guess is an American Holiday ... I'm not sure what exactly they celebrate, but Jay got to stay home from work today, so it was nice to spend time together. Last Thursday we went for sushi (again) with our friend Werner, he's so great -- and watched this completely bizarre movie called 'the secret'... [Sidebar] I guess it was just on Oprah too, so you know it's full of it ... basically a really good 'half truth' or quarter-truth ... just to show how dark our world is becoming, the New Age movement comes in many pretty packages. Just my opinion. [end sidebar] Werner is a really cool guy, and we'...

Coastal Canuks

This is the last sunset before 'the fog'. It's been foggy for the last 36 hours or so, but it feels like forever. Living so close to the water here, has been interesting to say the least. There is sooooooo much humidity. I cook, and the windows fog up. You have a shower and the windows fog up. I do the dishes...the window fog up. In fact, the windows are foggy now, and I'm not even doing anything. Yesterday fog started to roll in off the ocean around noon, just spatters of it, here and there, like clouds come right down to the ground, it fills everything with this surreal mist white and then clears off, only to show that more is on the way, drifting slowly across the ocean to run into the streets once again...but around 4:00 yesterday it really socked us in and it hasn't gone away yet. I am waiting for the moment when I see blue sky peering above my head in it's glorious hue. I like the mist and the complete saturation of my 'little world' here except t...

I'm Looking Up

Image
(Jay and Bryan's Ford GT40) Life and circumstance can be interesting things ... I say this, since I'm feeling rather 'reflective' or rather, introspective ... This afternoon we went to a friend of ours daughters' boyfriends house (did you get that? -- just checkin') we watched the 'Almighty Superbowl' on a large T.V. in a beautifully big house, with a 4 car garage and stone hot tub, fire pit and pedigree dogs...the whole nine yards...or in this case, seems like 20... whatever the situation, this guys is 33 and has more wealth than I can ever dream of accumulating in my little lifetime. (The 'StuperBowl') And you know, it made me think, well, it's making me think... (and I'm NOT saying this because I don't have 'any') but are these people really happy? Money can only buy you the 'stuff', can afford 'creature comforts' (ever wonder why they call it creature?) money is not the goal, and yet it seems here, there ...

Soup and Bowls

Image
Today we ventured to a park in Mission Bay (very close to our house) to a place called Ski Beach on Vacation Island (funny hey?)Where all the fine folks from SanDiegochuch got together to play their own 'Soup'er Bowl' of sorts. The Game: Flag Football The Soup: (I brought mushroom and tomato ... condensed) The Point? A canned soup drive coupled with some friendly football = Bowls of Fun =) It was a good day, Jay and I actually got some sun on our faces (Jay got sun on his head.) I did PLAY Flag foot ball! Can you believe it? Jay didn't but I stepped up to the plate! All the while hoping that I wouldn't get injured since we don't have any insurance here... (I did escape with no major catastrophe's, a couple bruises...but no catastrophes') I was on Pastor Chad's team "Chuck Norris' Beard" (See designer T-Shirt) The name was his idea...I don't think we won... although near the end of the tournament, we were playing sudden death overti...

A 'Little' of Everything ...

Image
(this photo taken last night outside our apt. bldg.) [A Prequel] It is encouraging to be with friends, and to hear from those who just want to share their hearts and words of wisdom -- So I thank those who do, from my very heart =) --------------------------------- I thought I should post seems as I've been 'lazy' as of late. I started sort of a new position of sorts with the paper that I work for in Canada (Living Light News). It's very challenging -- in more ways than one. It's an "Associate Editor" position, which sounds FANTASTIC! (Doesn't it?) But it's really pushing me. Aside from the usual feelings of being overworked (somewhat) , I have been feeling overwhelmed and TOTALLY pushed over the edges of my comfort zone ... which is not hard to do. I'm totally one of those people who just like to be "protected" from the world (which is silly I realize). I like to put on this great front, but in reality I really DISLIKE having to cal...
