the Anatomy of a Painting

Image
For the last two weeks I've been working on a painting for a guy that Jay works with (Tyler) and his wife. I wanted to paint them something for their wedding (which was in the summer) but was too busy (there's a big surprise) to get to something meaningful till now. Today was hecktic (work wise) almost ridiculous. But I'm home, and I wanted to finish touch this peice so that I can give it to them soon. It's based off of a wedding photo they had taken in Hawaii. What we did (last Tuesday!) night

(The following is from last week =) I have since figured out a way to get stuff posted to here! yay!) My friend Laura's baby Mira is going to be celebrating her FIRST birthday in two weeks. (Yikes! I can't believe how time has flown by) A while ago Laura had (sort of kiddingly?) asked if I would write Mira a song ... so I had said yes, but it was sooo long ago I'm thinkin' she's kind of forgotten (?). So, tonight Jay and I recorded the song that I wrote, it's sort of a lullabye of sorts ... with Jay's magic touch on guitar and ProTools ... so, the lyrics are below ... enjoy! (Oh, and Andy, if you read this PLEASE dont' tell Laura ... and happy early birthday to your kid!) Mira's Song Close your eyes, Angel Sleep tonight, Angel The world outside, Angel Cannot touch you tonight, Angel Don't cry, Angel Dry those little eyes, Angel The world outside, Angel Needs your little light, Angel ... oooooh, shine, shine, shine, this little light of mine ooooo...
I am having one of those "moments" right now where I'm wondering why on EARTH I am trying to do what I am doing ... and the answer to myself is ... because I don't know anything else. Ponder that.

(almost the) weekend update with Amy H.

Well, it's been a busy couple of weeks I guess. I was trying to explain to our good friend Murray on the phone this last weekend the reason for the lags in between posts at times. I don't have any AMAZING excuses, except that generally when I get really busy with work @ JC and also freelance, things get tough to fit in a blog post. Multiply that with the fact that nothing really crazy exciting is happening in our lives and you get the 2 weeks (or in this case, week and a half) space between posts! This week though has been filled with some highlights ;) On Tuesday evening Jay and I recorded a little "lullaby" for a certain someone's 1st birthday ... as a surprise and a gift to Laura and Andy ... (so Andy, if you DO read this before the day PLEASE do not mention anything to Laura!!) I was going to post it up here, and still want to BUT the company that was hosting my website and FTP has had a "meltdown" and has lost everything ... soooo, I don't curre...

Quick Update y'alls

Oh, before I go any further, a most happy CANADIAN thanksgiving to the fam. and friends! It feels pretty normal here, I guess it's Columbus Day, but neither Jay or myself got the day off. It's been busy for me at work, but we had a good weekend. I need to share a couple experiences quickly: Momma H: We had our FIRST trip to an AMERICAN COSTCO store this last Sunday. We got an offer in the mail for a Costco card (I guess you don't need to have a business here to get one) so Jay and I went down on Sunday afternoon and got "the cards". First let me say, I have the most HIDEOUS photo of myself, EVER on the back of it, I seriously look like an anatomy doll ... I should post a picture of it cause you really wouldn't believe it. Jay's eyes are closed on his ... yep, and we have to show our cards and our rehab-pixelated faces EVERY time we go in =) We did buy some stuff there though I have to admit, it was kind of overwhelming, INCREDIBLY busy (I guess everyone e...

California is a wonderful place to live, in fact, I would almost say that the weather here is darn near perfect -- if you can stand the possibility of the earth moving under your feet every once in a while and the fire seasons, you're set. This is the view from my window right now. It looks kind of like an eerie atom bomb but it's a brush fire burning in our nearby Army base ... there is no threat to homes as of yet, but the Santa Ana's are on their way as of this weekend. Which (fast forward to last october on this blog and you'll see why it's a bit like walking through a room full of glass) But, we take it as it comes. It's been a good couple of weeks. I had a VERY good and most relaxing weekend and got back to the roots of myself -- I spent alot of time praying and singing and playing piano and guitar. My mom's asked me to make her a worship CD of my playing and singing some of my favourite songs, so I've been working on that. It's going to be tot...
