SILENCE

Image
Is walking in warm sand a breath of wind a blooming flower the surrender of power the realization we are never alone the comforting promise of one day a home a place God's grace a fight against the world's might and sickness disease that brings us all to our knees but one day the promise to be free is singing silence

Today was the windy city day ... again ... in San Diego, Point Loma. We took a trip down to the Sunset Cliffs, once again to experience God's wrath and wonder as we almost got blown off the cliffs into the sea. The wind whipped and was wild, the Diegans' call it a "Spring Storm" even though, there is not really any rain, or lots of clouds, just wind ... lots of wind. The ocean looked like God was stirring a giant boiling pot After we heading to the local shops in OB and ate at a cozy restaurant/hole in the wall called "Hodads" which gave us all a good case of heartburn, but felt good while eating it... and Amanda and Kee found the neighborhood Closet store, and I bought a new pair of earrings. Tomorrow it's shopping, and hopefully a nicer day at the beach. Till next blog. a.

WEEKEND!!!! SISTERS!!!!! YAY!!!!

Image
This weekend marked the advent of Jay's two sisters', Keely and Amanda, coming down to San Diego. They are our first house guests, and the first to see what our life is like here in the Big "S.D". They arrived on Friday afternoon and we've spent the weekend driving about, visiting resorts and beaches and walking and going out to lots of dinners (and myself prob. gaining a couple pounds) but it has been great. We started the evening at Sunset cliffs for some sightseeing and heading off to Werners' house (our gracious tour guide for the whole weekend!) and found, halfway down the freeway that a little LIZARD had attached himself to the hood of our Subaru!! He stayed on the WHOLE way there -- I think he was a little shaken... (80miles/hour on the interstate could do that to ya) We headed out on the town to the Gaslamp district to a couple pubs and walking the streets with all the other foriegn Friday nighters. Saturday we went to Cornado Island, (a man made isle...

Sobering Verse : Hebrews 10:22-31

22let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess , for he who promised is faithful. 24And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds . 25Let us not give up meeting together , as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching. 26If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. 28Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of t...

American "Swamp" Meet

Image
So, remember in my last blog I mentioned that Jay and I were going to head down to our 'little' neighborhood swap meet to check it out, and I made a candid, witty little remark about how I was wondering if a Swap meet was American for Farmer's Market? Well, let's just say in answer: "Not Exactly" In fact "Not in the slightest" Let's brief: A Swap Meet (for those who have never been to one) is a strange lot. It's $1 to get in (that's $1.15 CAN) There are rows, and rows ... and rows of 'stores', some larger than others, canopied little make-shops, with their wares hanging and set, and in some cases, thrown about the tent. In the beginning, it's fair enough. Alot of wholesale 'cosmetic' tents (ish), Mexican clothing and jewelery, shoes and T-Shirts, all super cheap. However, as you progress through the myriad of tents and people and products, you start getting into weirder, and stranger and more 'rustic' type stu...

Where did the week go?

WOW, I can't believe it's Saturday morning already =( I feel like the week totally slipped away from me, like an elusive little girl running out of my arms to go play, its' gone. you know what the scary part is, I can't really pinpoint anything fun that I've done, and I don't have any pictures to share!! My week was spent working, preparing a bid, sending the bid and worrying about it a little, although I'm trying to put that into God's hands and not freak out, I know that He knows more than me, and He will pick what is best. I worked on the paper and the county guide ad section. We had our bible study on Wednesday and had Laura and Andy over for Lasagna last night (my treat, turned out alright -- I do feel like everything I make here tastes different (aka not as good) as the stuff I made at home. Must be the altitude or something ... Jay and I will be walking today to the "Swap Meet" they have every Saturday, I don't know if that's A...

Making a Difference

Our sermon today at our church was very interesting, and convicting... and I find it particularly timely in my life. I'll elaborate -- The sermon giver was an invited speaker, a professor at some Christian College around here,Vanguard I think, but I don't remember for sure. He opened his time with this statement: "The best way to ensure that you don't make a difference, is to actively try to make a difference." which, sounds (paradoxical? is that the right word?) at this point I am all ears, since I've been burdened, for as long as I can remember, that I should really be trying to make a difference , or, why am I not making a bigger difference , or when my life is done, I want to have made a difference . His whole point was that, when we become so focused on "making this difference" we can become the type of people that have a check list of things that we do to make a difference, but all we end up doing is making short term changes, and at the en...

HP OfficeJet 1660, my new friend

Today is a happy day =) (this is what Jay is doing right now, and probably will be all night ... sigh ... anyways --) Yesterday I finished the paper, and put it to 'bed' -- it's printed and done and that's that, but it's already onto the next one. It was my first go-round as the "a-soc. editor" ... it was pretty challenging, a total learning experience, but it was good, and I actually enjoyed it. I'm kind of paranoid now about mistakes in the paper, or someone writing me to tell me that my story about them sucked ... but hopefully that won't actually happen! lol Anyways, today was cool, because, as you may be aware, I've been preparing my bid for Strathcona County contract (again) since it was up and over, so I learned this morning (deadline for sending in my bid) that I can't email it in, I need to send a hardcopy (suckie) so I'd have to make my butt down the the neighborhood Kinko's AGAIN and print off like 30 pages, and pay like ...

Clothing Tags, Tide Pools and Taking a Breather

K Dude, busy is my middle name, soon to be followed by overwhelmed and under-relaxed. I need to post some pics from the weekend, because it was FAB! Shopping was excellent, and I scored some great goods, I spent the $50 I got for my birthday from the Huzil clan at my favourite store "Closet" and spent my time with my friend Laura, such a sweetheart. (Laura and I @ Nordstrom "RACK", aka, busy as heck -- the line up was seriously like 50 feet long, but the wait was short, so that was good) (Sad state of union) Sunday, Jay and I ventured to the coast after church, where it was low tide and there were pools of crabs and a landscape we've never seen before, because it's usually covered with water. It was really neat to see the micro-habitats of so many little wee creatures, all God's glory. (Jay on the rocks) Weird things, I have no idea what they are, but they were everywhere Super cute crab! LOVE him. This week has been so busy for me, I can barely seem to...

(insert Space Oddessy 2001 theme music now ... ) duuu nuuuuuu ... duuu nuuuuu naaaaaa .... The Huzil's have duuuuuu-naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!! a T.V. (boom boom boom boom boom boom) It's true, after literally a quarter of the year without a visual connection to the world, Jay achieved his dream of owning a new 40" Samsung LCD Television. It came direct from Amazon.com -- if you life in the states, Amazon is the BEST place to buy pretty much anything, apparently -- we saved like $400 compared to retail prices. Anyways, I know Jay would want me to share that. I'm pretty cool with the T.V., although, there is a part of me that kind of likes not being connected and seeing all the sadness. Last night we watched the CBS news with Katie Couric and NO kidding, EVERY story but one, had someone crying in it, which made me want to cry -- even Katie was like "this is a very sad news cast" at one point... was ACTUALLY depressing, American News is truly...

A not-so-random thought

When you are walking on the street, or about your day, even in the grocery store -- when you interact with people, when you say 'thanks' as you hurry about, wondering what's for supper or if you've gotten any new emails ... Do you look people in the eye? (yes, it is my eye ball) I'm not talking about looking at someones face, or hands, or what they're wearing, or the earrings in their ears. Do you take the time to look directly into someones eyes -- look at the person within standing in front or beside you? I don't -- nearly often enough, and when I do think to really check that person out, they are not usually looking back at me. Their eyes usually focused down, or on whatever they're doing, too busy, too scared, too tired maybe to look into someone else's soul and care for just one moment in their day -- too busy, just like I have been. The weekend is almost here, I will be shopping (Yay!) with my friend Laura, a very sweet girl, we'll have so...
