American "Swamp" Meet
So, remember in my last blog I mentioned that Jay and I were going to head down to our 'little' neighborhood swap meet to check it out, and I made a candid, witty little remark about how I was wondering if a Swap meet was American for Farmer's Market?Well,
let's just say in answer: "Not Exactly"
In fact "Not in the slightest"
Let's brief:

A Swap Meet (for those who have never been to one) is a strange lot. It's $1 to get in (that's $1.15 CAN) There are rows, and rows ... and rows of 'stores', some larger than others, canopied little make-shops, with their wares hanging and set, and in some cases, thrown about the tent. In the beginning, it's fair enough. Alot of wholesale 'cosmetic' tents (ish), Mexican clothing and jewelery, shoes and T-Shirts, all super cheap. However, as you progress through the myriad of tents and people and products, you start getting into weirder, and stranger and more 'rustic' type stuff, till before you know it, you're looking at a bunch of peoples' garage sale garbage, "All for $1 a piece". You looking for a defibrillator? A belt from the mid '70's? Defunct video game equipment (aka Atari, no, I'm not kidding). How about a giant wrench, old war helmets or a car full of crap, oh it's ALL at the Swap Meet! I have never seen so much junk, and I do mean junk, it was absolutely bizarre. Area's 12' square just loaded with old appliances, books, and other craps, people are just really hoping you'll purchase I guess.
Needless to say I did walk away with some cool new sunglasses ($5) and a REALLY cool new arm band (I bought from this cute little Mexican lady with curly hair).
The evening was spent with our new friend, Rick. An interesting eclectic musician from L.A. He invited us to come jam with some of his friends in East county San Diego. (See photos)

Rick is the one playing drums. and Jay wants all his music friends to know that Rick was using an Avalon pre-amp for the vocals. (I incidentally didn't sing -- my repertoire for Dr. Hook, Journey and the Doobie Bros. isn't great, so I mostly just watched)

Today was good and we're just chilling, I'm baking cookies and Jay is playing some mind-numbing video game ... we may hang out with Werner tonight.
Till next blog. A.
