I had this thought this morning when Jay and I were driving to work. I feel like an island. an Island of a women ... floating in the vast ocean of life, my water is calm, kind of murky, it's slightly overcast -- and through the breezes of this world I hear my friends crying. My friends hurting, dreaming, getting angry, upset, plodding through life, trying. and I float, unable to gain any direction towards them by wind or rope, I offer up prayers that seem so insignificant, so small, they breathe out, and get caught on a breeze and drift away from me, as I watch them, wanting them to find their rest, in the hearts of their hearers ... but I feel like the only one who can hear them is me What can I do and what is left -- I keep floating, knowing at least He hears, hoping that he can transfer what I can't, into movement, momentum and release.
BAND 101: Music Business (does NOT? equal) Music Ministry, Music Integrity, Musical Creativity I believe that God has amazing things in store for our music. I believe that God is going to use us to influence those who need to hear His voice through our medium, and I believe that he is taking care of us. We have a show coming up on the 12th of March in Carlsbad, at a venue that's actually like, 6 blocks away from our house. The stage is cool, the club is larger, the promoter is easy to deal with, everything just FEELS right. Important. We got an email over the weekend from an "A & R" rep. from a music festival called "Emergenza" telling us we have a spot to play in San Diego if interested, the website was rather vague on details of the events, apparently it's some kind of battle of the bands deal, sounds good right? Here was the catch. The entry fee is $70, Pay to Play at it's finest, this would have almost been o.k. to me, except that, turns out in...

How hard it is to be content -- You woudn't think that's the case, because content seems that it would be, not as "good" as being "happy", a safer bet infact (because you dont' have to be happy to be content) Being content (according to dictionary.com) is being satisfied, satisfied with what one is or has; not wanting more or anything else. So, how hard is that? Oftentimes I find myself falling into the play of not being content, feeling like I'm needing something else, wanting indeed, something more (or less) than I have. It's VERY easy to do. For perfect example; yesterday at work I was grumbling about my job. I was bummed because one of the more "creative" area's of my job (designing our Point of Purchase posters for new foods) was getting trumped by an agency and their idea of a "cleaner more sophisticated" (and I'll add here, BORING) look to enhance their photographs. Normally, it's really whatever, but for ...

Valentines to Remember

I think today is the best Valentines Day ever. And I don't even think that I'm exaggerating =) The day started normally enough, it was "my Saturday", my favorite day of the week, where we awake around 8, I make some coffee, eggs and fruit and we sit and chat and I mentally prepare for what I'm going to do ... which is usually nothing, or at least, nothing workish related. Usually, just music, playing piano or singing, cleaning, maybe a walk on the beach, or into town, perhaps some painting when it's all said and done. But today I was planning to go to Jay's work to do something, which in itself is pretty special. I got a bonus at work (just a yearly thing, they usually do, which is a big blessing really in a time like this that a company still gives money that's not ness. needed to their employees.) Anyways, I got $500 and I knew exactly what I wanted to purchase with this, "free" money. I bought my own acoustic guitar!! Jay helped me pick ...

Wow, I'm so sorry that I haven't blogged in quite a while!! I really have no good excuse, in fact, I spent bits and pieces of this week thinking of cool topics I could write about but never got around to it because I didn't have the time ... so anyways, my apologies I think sometimes I struggle now because life seems to be trucking along and I feel like I have nothing super significant to write about ... I feel like I have a bit of pressure to write about something meaningful to communicate to you guys =) But when all I have to share is the mundane- ness soundings of my week, it seems kind of useless to blog about it This last week though, was eventful, it was full of inspiration ... my heart for songwriting is beginning to burn within me. I find myself wishing I could play piano more, and just let my voice go in song ... I think I'm going to need to have a personal writing retreat soon. One thing that I was able to do, way back when we first moved down, was just han...

I'm not sure exactly where my mind is at present.

I have had a wonderful and sort of "debrief-ish" last couple of weeks. I've finished up some large freelance projects, continued to fall into the grooves of JC and all that entails. My personal life feels at present always busy but good. I guess it's a good rut to be in. Of course alot of things have been happening outside of my life as well. Last week we were all "allowed" downstairs to our lunch room to watch the inauguration of President Obama, and I watched (among the absolute throngs of people in Washington and all over) American History unfold itself. I also watched a gentleman in front of me (African American) crying and wiping his eyes, which struck me much more than watching the president himself. I guess I have an interesting perspective on things ... being a Canadian in America I did not grow up with segregation, nor the racial politics and strife that this nation has endured and is now trying slowly to diminish. The weight of this presidency fo...
