Today I am feeling a little homesick -- and actually sick.
I seem to have picked up a chest-weird-cough thing, go figure, so my voice super sucks today (I sound like a man) and the last couple days I've just felt tired and drained of all energy. Today we went to the same church as last week and the sermon was pretty good. It's a great church, I wish I could be more 'enthused' about it, but my sick makes me just quietly greatful that we've been able to attend the last two weeks. Next Sunday we'll check out this other church I am really looking forward to, it's the only church that responded to my "hey, we're Canadians moving to California...please read this!" letter. So I'm looking forward to that, I hope that I feel better really soon, usually sick doesn't stay with me to often...but that's besides the point.
Yesterday night we celebrated, with our host family (the Hayes) and about 16 other people, Rene's 50th birthday. It was a wonderful evening filled with good food (they hired an amazing caterer), music (Rene's daughter sang Jan arden's 'good mother' song, I was thinking if I had sung that song to my mom, it would have made me cry!! and prob. my mom 2) and a lot of Rene's friends said just beautiful things to honor the person that she is. It was really cool. I was thinking if I had that kind of friendship(s) when I was 50, I'd say that I was living life pretty much how I should be. We got to meet alot of Christian's who go to their church. And even one couple who both went to Jay's college in Washington (in the early 70's, talk about small world!)

(Jay and Bardy, chillin' out before the big shin-dig...)
This is Rene Hayes (the other half of our host family couple)and me =)
this is Jay, and the Hayes' daughter Rachel (with her husband in the middle) they, along with another couple from Montreal were flown in as a surprise for Rene'. (They live in Jasper - how great is that!)
The Dinner Party
It's probably all the family and close friend stuff that makes me think so much about everything back in Canada, the wonderful church family we left, and ofcourse, my mom (!!) and all our close friends, and the community there...I miss you guys...but I know, and I do believe that God has things taken care for us here, and we'll, somewhere, find new connections and new community here. -- it just takes time -- Till next time =) A.
