Football Fan's

Today we had the opportunity to watch an NFL playoff game featuring our very own 'home' team the San Diego Chargers. The game was a quarter-final against the New England Patriots, leading up the AFL final and then the almighty SUPER BOWL. Our church is apparently filled with many people who are football fans, including our pastor, who invited us all over to his house to watch the BIG GAME.

Now, Football, is an interesting sport, I don't fully understand even a quarter of what goes on. But it seems to be a game of strategy, brutal pain, advancement vs careful retreat and ultimately teamwork...all the players MUST work together to advance the ball, and eventually make a touch down. Plays are carefully planned and executed, some with success, others with defeat.

There is alot of emotion tied into watching a game, and it's interesting to realize how much we can actually care about things that have no bearing whatsoever on our lives. We can become absolutely engrossed, albeit for 2 hours, in another land, where time is clocked and tracked in quarters, where seconds and yards are measured and flags and tackles dominate our thinking. It's an emotional rollercoaster for the players and the fans and there is a very raw sense of emotion that is displayed, whether it be anger or joy, all while watching 'your team'.

Again, Football, is an intersting sport, almost MORE intersting however are the FANS of the sport...there is a reason why they are called FANS, ie, FANATICS, of which, we happened to be sitting next to quite a few. I thought that by the end, it was almost just as much fun watching the game, as it was watching and experiencing the people we were sitting with.

The San Diego Chargers did loose the game. (I had flashbacks of the Oilers loosing in 7th game all over again). But we did win today. There were great times, memories and friends.

I guess in California, fans are said to be fickle, but i say, "Go, Guys, Go", even if the season is over.
