Update for the families

This morning, I awoke to an outside that was very different than yesterday.

Yesterday morning seemed like every other, the sky was blue, the ocean, beautiful as always... the air, breathable, crisp and fresh.
Today I woke up in the pitch dark at 6:00 a.m. After dreaming about constant news coverage and nightmares of being told to evacuate by a police man at my door, by 7 a.m., when our sun rose, the sky is grey. And not grey like the cold dull rain clouds that saturate the atmosphere with life-giving moisture. This grey is dirty, it touches the groud, it almost looks yellow and there are bits of ash floating around in the air.

A small sliver of red-yellow bursts from the edge of the earth, where the sun can peak her head out, for now. It's eerie and suffocating. We're told to pay attention to the news today (which ~ has been non-stop since yesterday a.m. on our networks), as the winds are so unpredictable that anything could happen.

It's really smokey here this morning, but thankfully for our area, nothing has changed. We are under Voluntary Evacuation, which means we don't have to leave, but you need to be prepared to leave, in case they come to your door and let you know, it's time to go. (I do have a couple bags packed... just in case)

The fires that are affecting our area are the Witch Creek Fire (which was the one that started in the Ramona Area where Amanda and Justin were staying) and also the Fallbrook area (which is North of us) basically, we have a fire below us, inland, and a fire above us, inland. But our area is o.k., and presently being used as Evacuation centers for those who are being displaced.

The fires can be seen from space, and the smoke swath is unreal.

We are well for now, but so many people have lost homes, and over 300,000 people have been evacuated. They've dispatched the national guard, and now have army and navy helping to fight the fires. But the crazy thing to me, is that the fires are so unpredictable, that they don't even bother to FIGHT the brush fires, they simply try their utmost to protect homes from being burned in the process. So, the fires just burn and burn. The only thing that will stop them is when they run out of fuel and wind.
