The Creatures of Carlsbad

I'm going to start this blog with a bit of a "pre-quil" of sorts.

We have a very interesting (and STRANGE) neighbor lady named Eileen. She's almost like the "classic" and stereotypical "Strange" neighbor, who, obviously has issues, of various kinds. She's sort of spindly and skinny, middle aged and quite disheveled and quite the pack rat. Her balcony is littered (literally) with shells and rocks from the sea...her parking spot is right next to ours and the inside of her car looks like a hurricane of papers and junk just blew through. Unfortunately, her apt. looks the same. And in all truth I do actually feel for her. I really like her though, weird as she is. We've chatted on a couple of occasions and although you can tell she's not really "all on" upstairs, she is enough that it makes you like her and appreciate her quirkiness.

So, our wonderful neighbor lady Eileen has left her outside porch light on, well, pretty much since we've lived here. I don't think she's EVER turned it off. And this creates an interesting problem

As you know, we live in Southern California where bugs can live and thrive ALL year, growing and multiplying to their wee-hearts content. California Bugs can be on the larger side, def. much larger than Canadian ones I've seen. But they tend to be a bit on the spindly side, so they're just kind of large and annoying, not really scary. But they do possess the same little "bug instincts" that all little bugs share ... like being attracted to light bulbs (Can you see where I am going with this


Eileen's light outside her doorway (and ours) has become, well, an absolute Bug hangout. Every time we open the door almost, we have to be quick as too NOT let any flit their little buggie way into our home
There are giant grasshoppers and moths of MANY, MANY kinds (the biggest I have EVER seen, seriously, this pic is literally a "regular" sized moth ... and the "Giant Southern California Variety").


And these absolutely CREEPY large spindly things, they look like mosquitoes, but way bigger ... and I don't think they bite

We can't bring ourselves to ask her to turn off her light ... so we've just resorted to unscrewing the bulb in the evening after 10 and screwing it back in when we leave in the morning. For now it's keeping the bugs at bay ...

since it never goes off cos, get a towel and unscrew it, and replace it with a yellow bulb designed to not attract critters.

If I ever wondered if HE loved me

So, I'm going to admit how pathetic and "of little faith" I can be with this post. Of course, there needs to be a bit of prelude-type explanation. On Nov. 20th my husband and I will celebrate a special anniversary -- 4 years since leaving our home -- the only one we've known in Sherwood Park, Canada -- and driving, with only our car, clothes and guitars across the border and down, down, down to San Diego, California. (that's 1751 miles south) Our reason for the move was to pursue our music, our mission and our dreams and just a new life, pioneers of sorts. It would take me many blogs to say how many times God has shown me his love through the whole process, from easy stops at border crossings, to precisely timed Visa interviews, to lenient border guards, to miracles in paperwork and finding jobs, it is astounding how He has continually provided for us, and continually strengthens my faith through circumstance. Studio Feb 13th . 2010

So this weekend we went into the studio, Ground Level Sound, in Vista, CA to track drums for our album ... we did four songs yesterday and began one today (Unwanted Man, shown above), but then our producers computer crashed (!!!), so we had to leave early (only one hour after we got there) and he is now in the process as I type of retrieving the files that were lost when his drive became corrupt =(, I feel mostly bad for him, as he literally had a whole month of projects in jeopardy. I've racked my brain a bit today as to why this would have happened, and I have no answers, we're a bit deflated but all the more excited about getting these tracks done. We don't know if our songs from yesterday are o.k. or not yet, but we'll keep you posted, if all goes well, we'll be back at the studio to finish up. Please keep us in your prayers, for the completion of the tracks and album, and our producer too, Alan, his father in law is in the hospital right now with a broken neck...
