Woah, busy two weeks!
wow, is it just me, or did like 2 weeks FLY by?? eeks ...
Ok, quick update on our Pastors little boy, Little Chris has been diagnosed with a very rare type of Cancer, so rare in fact that there's only been 50 reported cases since 1978 in the U.S. They have been treating him with chemotherapy and each day has new challenges but he is still being treated and being prayed for in ICU. We continue to hold the family in prayer and our church (the people who make up the body) continue to bless me with their open hearts.
I've gone through ups and downs with pretty much everything else the last while. Work (JC) has been busy and steady ... had a bit of drama last week, my beloved supervisor literally "took" one of my bigger jobs away from me (and it was almost complete), in the name of "just having everything on her computer" since they are doing a series of these manuals, which I created the blueprint for, but which my Super is now working overtime on to get done ... while I hold down everything else. I had to swallow my pride (which was def. there) and get on w/ other things. It didn't seem fair ... but then I guess not a lot is.
Worship Leading has also had ups and downs, in fact now that I am writing this I'm reminded that I have not returned two phone calls today, but perhaps that's a matter of providence, of sorts. Seems I continually forget the "minuses" of this responsibility too quickly. And they are human ones, not spiritual issues that entangle me.
Our worship team is small, literally 3 guys who have hung on through the first 6 months. The last time we played I suggested that we consider trying to start to build 2 teams that could share in the responsibilities of leading so we don't all effectively burn out. Well, I don't know if they do things differently down here, but all of a sudden I have 2 pastors wanting to meet with me to discuss "the team split" and, after chatting w/ the guys @ practice, a couple confused and hurt gents. (They basically thought that Jay and I were going to form our "own " team and leave them high and dry, utterly as how they were before we got there) Not true.
If there is one thing that I think will FOREVER bother me about this position (at least the one that I seem to always find myself in) is that we (people) get really caught up in "doing" church, that we forget to just simply "be" the church. I fall into this too, but I'm trying really hard to be very wise when it comes to our roll helping with the worship at this new church plant. My number one priority (at least what I want it to be) is living a life that is worship, (all the time) remain accountable to God in every way I know how and lead with humility and respect, my brothers and sisters. I understand that churches need to have organization and commitments and leadership, but sometimes I wonder at very complicated we seem to make things.
To be quite honest, I would love to get some feedback and advice on this role that I find myself in (sole worship leader on a team of 5 in a church plant that's just a baby). I guess one of my weaknesses is not submitting to authority? I just don't understand why people can't just trust us to hold down the worship fort, and why I need to meet with and talk to three other people before making a small decision ... I feel like it's micro-management at it's finest. ... I don't know, obvious I am rambling at this point, and it would take WAY more of a blog and writing to explain the whole situation.
at any rate, the weekend is here -- I am looking forward to re-connecting and finding some creative peace midst this chaos.
Till next blog ~
