A Glimpse of Glory
Every once in a while I get a glimpse, a small tender touch from the Lord, revealing a bit of His nature, His love, His gentle call to obedience or rest, upon my heart.
Today I was working away at my little sterile green cubical in Corporate America -- which I've tried to "decorate" with various photos and other paraphernalia which is my life, so that when I look up from the white monitor light I can remind myself why I am here and what is important to really live for.
I was listening to worship music, which is not uncommon for me. And an acapella version of this chorus came on through my little headphone:
"What can wash Away my Sins, nothing but the blood of Jesus.
What can make me whole again, nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Oh, Precious is the flow, that makes me white as snow.
No other fount I know, nothing but the blood of Jesus."
Of course, it occurred to me as I sat here that it's pretty strange, (very much more so for those who don't know Christ yet) that we sing of His blood. And I allowed myself to ponder that thought for a moment and this picture came to my mind:
A man, flesh and blood, bending down, with hands pierced and blood dripping. But then arms, big warm arms reaching around to hold me. Holding like someone who holds and hugs a child to take a bullet. Or like a parent holding their child to protect against a violent spouse. Like protection of the supernatural. It was this vision of Jesus who Holds us with those wounds and protects us EVERY time we sin. A God who chose to become a Man so He could willingly give UP His life for us, so He could hold us like this, His chosen possession. It's because He bled and died that we have freedom from death, the payment for Sin, for separation and free wills that choose to follow our own hearts, rather than the heart of our Father, the heart of God.
That is why we sing of His blood.
And it's those arms and those wounds that will hold me one day when the shadow of death crosses over my earthly body, but then, those arms will carry me home.
And that, is just a Glimpse of Glory.
