In a Dumpster in Southern California ...

I bought a new bag last week. I was looking for something large for my laptop and other stuff, mostly for work ofcourse. When we were in Canada, I had found one but didn't purchase, so it was up to me and online shopping to find the perfect bag =)

I did find one and it arrived to my home on Friday. It's beautiful, leather, tan and very soft, with all the important pockets inside and out. Fully zippable and smells amazing (like leather). I brought it into Corporate JC today and I have to admit, I felt pretty good. It's amazing what a new bag can do. I even made sure the pumps I was wearing would match. It's like a new start, sort of, a new chapter in my life perhaps?

After a month long hiatus with the blog, you may be wondering, why on earth I am starting off with a silly story about a new bag, but believe me, there is purpose. You see, when we had been planning to come to California, almost a year in advance, I had bought a new bag, for my laptop and all my worldly business possessions. This tall, green laptop case would come with me through my last Canadian Winter, weather the storms of Seattle, see the tree branches of the Red Woods and make it's way 1500 miles south, to land with me, in sunny San Diego. This bag housed my laptop and my livelyhood for 4 years. It even graced the walls of JC with humilty and a bit of spunk. But it was getting old, it was breaking down, the strap was almost worn right thin and it was stained in, innumerable places (with who only knows what!) long story short, it was pretty much done.

It is now laying in a Dumpster (well, our dumpster) in Southern California, lovingly used and ready for retirement. In some ways it marks another piece of Canada moving forward and moving on.

When we first came down, Jay symbolically had stuck our snowbrush for the Car in the sand @ La Jolla beach, we took a quick picture and then planted it, in a dumpster in Southern California. It can seem sort of cold, thinking of "throwing away" these things that we have used and have meant so much, but it's also a reminder that nothing stays the same. That we chose to come down here and start this new life, and by Gods Good Grace, we have been able to stay.

Traveling to Canada has made me reflect on that even more so. How good it was to see everyone, and also, how removed I am becoming, everything moves on, and so do we. We continually, slowly "shed" the old, and "transform" into the new.

Life for us is always busy (well, I guess I can only speak for myself!) but it is. And I think soon, there needs to be some change for me. I am praying for direction on what that is. I have more opportunity with the church that we are leading at, but I'm not sure that I want that responsibility on my shoulders. Our music is progressing and infact, this week, Jay will be at the studio w/ Cedrick, re-recording the guitars and I am hoping and praying that Cedrick continues to advance w/ mixing our record. And work is work, it bogs me down, it takes up my time and at the same time it thrills me to create ... but I need to take a serious look at what I want to spend my time on.

Again, sorry for the lag -- now that I am back and more focused, I'm sure I will write more regulary =)

Till next Blog ~ love, a.
