My modern day Ecclesiastes

the traffic runs like blood through these streets, main arteries in the stop and go life. Mundane rumbles and rushing but standing still people, making their way from what they love, to what makes, what they love possible — in this world.

That person, confined beside you in their comfortable luxury automobile, may have a wife, maybe a husband, maybe their marriage is the most beautiful thing, or maybe it's very broken. Maybe they have kids that are rebelling, maybe this time to and from work is the only moment they get to be with themselves, maybe it's the most comforting time, maybe the scariest.

We are all paying for something. We all, in this culture, sacrifice our time, which is the most important commodity, for a bunch of shiny stuff, that somehow, makes this every day grind seem bearable. While we grow older, and more aches and more stresses creep up our backs, our necks, brace our temples with vices of various labels, we sacrifice more time, for more objects while the babies grow older, grow up and grow away.

Gardens overgrow, desire water, then begin to dry up.  Dust collects, is swept away, collects again. We are caught in the maintenance of "stuff" keeping it shiny, while it slowly molds, corrodes and decays from the inside out.

It doesn't stop.

And in this aching life and we need to stop.

When it all comes down ~ what will we have left?

Whether at the end, it is a blaze of glory, so quick we don't comprehend what happened until things seem to open to be in our earthly vessels anymore. Or a quiet heartbeat during sleep, that beats, then, beats no more, and the dream becomes the reality of weightlessness.  When we truly AWAKE from this world and see our Creator, maybe for the first time, and we wonder what we've done, what we could have done, then realize He really did "do it all" for us.

Whatever our paths, what we have here, on this earth, is certainly chasing after the wind.  It blooms for a time and is finished. And we are so fixated on the earth we forget the limitlessness of the heavens. We forget to look up.

We forget to look for Him.

When you seek Him, you will find Him.  And it's in the finding that this life finds meaning.
Finally.
