Meaningless to Meaningful

Ecclesiastes 9: 7-10 7 Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for it is now that God favors what you do. 8 Always be clothed in white, and always anoint your head with oil. 9 Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love, all the days of this meaningless life that God has given you under the sun— all your meaningless days. For this is your lot in life and in your toilsome labor under the sun. 10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, [ c ] where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom. This may sound depressing, such is the book of Ecc. I guess. It's generally one of those books in the Bible that I like to read when I am feeling bummed about life or circumstance and I can just chill with the thoughts and wisdom of someone who felt the same way as me, only like, 3000 years ago (or whenever it was originally written) However, I include it now not because I am bummed about life an...

The View from Here ...

Well, we're MOVING!!! (again) as per the last blog, we viewed Eileen's old place on Wednesday ... I have to say ... the apartment=amazing! The condition of the apartment = disgusting. Which is "odd" for a lady who kept a ragged taped sign on her front door stating "please remove your shoes before entering". I'm not even kidding, Jay and I felt like we needed to wash after we walked around in there. She had the MOST disgusting carpet, infact worst I've EVER seen!!!! (As in, literally, dark brown usage tracks in the Living room, halls and bedroom, like if you walked about in oil and then wiped it on your carpet for ... years) I promptly called our land lady the next day and was like: "K, so, we LOVE the apartment, but there's GOT to be something done about the carpet". And, there was! So, in the end, we get the supreme ocean view (from our living room AND bedroom) AND we get NEW carpet (you can tell by the excessive use of CAPS that thi...

Music is my life

The Band from Saturday night ... the two gentlemen on the left played Steel Guitar and Sax respectively, Steve is in the middle and Mike, our drummer for SEA on the end. Or what I look forward too, at any rate... This past weekend we were asked by a guy that Jay works with @ Buffalo Bros to play/sing @ a little restaurant/coastal night spot in Encinitas (about 9 miles south of our house). We mostly sang covers and did some of his original tunes, Jay wailing away in a consistent wonderful guitar solo and I singing backups and some covers we had picked. It was crazy fun -- in fact, quite a bit more fun than I had sort of thought it would be ... the restaurant was pretty decently packed and we even got some dollars in tips from some cute little kids! I'm hoping that maybe we'll be able to do it again sometime soon, or at least in the near future. We've also been jamming with 'the band" and will be focusing a bit more on writing some new materials, and practicing two ...

Crashing ... New York??

So, I wanted to share some cool stuff re: me and JC-- I recently worked on some grand opening materials for a JC centre that was opening in Chelsea New York. It was exciting cause it was one of the first things where I sort of stretched the bounds of Corporate Creativity and did my own thing and the Marketing Dept. actually LIKED it! Anyways, we got some pics today from the media planner who helped coordinate everything and so, I wanted to share pics of some of MY stuff on the STREETS of NEW YORK -- BooYah!!! I designed the phone kiosk and the bus shelters ... anyways, exciting times at Jenny C. for me =) Till Next Blog ~ love a. The Bus Shelter Phone Kiosk, I love the guy standing next to it! He has a New York T on and everything! Here is a better pic of the phone kiosk.

Happy July 4th -- and beyond!

This last week we've had Jay's youngest sister staying with us. They had a crazy action packed week -- combined with our long holiday here, (which was wonderful!) Jay is now feeling under the weather (has a flu and cold -- in July -- not fun) and I am not looking forward to going into work today, but know that I have too ... Here are some shots from the past week. enjoy! Jay and Amanda, hangin' on our beach the first day here. The second day here (or I think it could have been the third, Jay took Amanda out for surfing her first time -- I think she did very well! July 4th was spent with friends (our old neighbors who just moved out of our apartments) and their friends from New York. They live across the lagoon from us (the lagoon is in the background) and we had a BBQ, took lots of pictures, made (my) first patriotic cake, drew on their large chalk wall, (well, just I did that) and lots more. It was a picture perfect day. (This is Jen, from New York, Amanda and myself) Th...

Altering my World

Image
(Painting by Emily Wierenga) So, I get pretty bored at work sometimes, when there is very little to keep me hands busy, today I googled my name ( Amy Huzil ) and I also googled my ... well, sort of screen name (?) which I'm thinking of making my "stage name" (what people who hear our music will know me as) Ammee Pearl and the following post came up first. This was penned by my dear friend Emily (who at the time was in Korea teaching English, but who now lives outside of Toronto w/ her husband, and is a freelance writer). I read the words, which I had so long forgotten, and sitting here in my little cubical, I almost started to cry ... and I think because I had forgotten pieces of who I am, or at least, I'd laid them aside some. It's so easy to forget what God has called you to do. And the reason I am so passionate about this right now, is this ... (I kid you not) Today at lunch I went outside and sat (I usually do) I have this corner of the parking lot th...
