A Rare Moment

The end of September has come to this corner of the world and my life. Today has been a strange one by any normal "San Diegan's" standards. Our Indian Summer weather (we reached a sweltering 113 degrees on Monday) has brought clashing of the titans, of the cumulonimbus variety into our skies and today is has poured rain and thundered so loud it's setting off car alarms outside. Very rare indeed for this sun-soaked vacation destination. I have been sitting in my office being able to watch the clouds roll by, they're formidable shapes moving and changing across the east, angry colors bringing shades of rain and sun all day. My supervisor has been in an all day meeting so I've closed the door and turned on some music of the worship variety and have just been working, and for the first time in a long while, enjoying. I have been so busy, with JC and freelance (well, I still am) but so busy that I haven't been enjoying, I've been plowing through creative...

Office Living

Image
Well, last week my supervisor and I @ JC moved from our upstairs green fuzzy walled cubical living, to an office that had opened up downstairs in the same building. We became the envy of all the marketing dept. and encountered some opposition, but we made it down, moved into our desks and set up the plants on the window sill. I guess this is the pinnacle for corporate life. My own office, with my own space, windows and plants, picture frames and privacy. It's a bit weird to get used to ~ and I do feel a bit guilty since there are sooo many people in my dept. who really deserve an office -- need an office. But we are technically sharing I guess ... and now I do feel officially cut off from the rest of the world, I can't help but think that this is what my "super" kind of was hoping for -- it's a bit strange ~ but whatever ... I'm enjoying this, but not putting stock in it ... I don't want "this" to be a status symbol for me (which sounds ridicul...

"Don't Wannabees"

This last Wednesday two girls from work and myself went to a "C-list" celebrity event/party for OK! Magazine. It was in Hollywood, on Sunset Blvd. and was QUITE the deal. There was a red carpet at the entrance set up (we didn't get to walk on it!) and inside was very luxurious and pretty much all I would have expected from such a set up. Lots of "young" and up and coming Hollywood were in attendance as well as a few Reality TV stars, some playboy playmates and a couple bands, I've never heard of. In fact, I recognized NO ONE (haha) -- really shows how "in touch" I am with what's going on in pop culture right now. The girls I were with from work (KT and M) were spotting peeps left and right and they had a blast and got pics taken with those they knew... I just sat back, older gently approving sister, and watched. Afterall, if there was one thing that I took away from this thing, it would be this: This scene is glorified people watching. It...

A Star Spangled September

Image
(these cute shoes just happen to be THE shoes that Jason Alexander wore in his most recent JC commercial -- no kidding, they were left over and they FIT my feet!! ... guess he has small feet for a guy!) See -- I told you I wouldn't wait as long to blog!! The summer seemed to fly right by my face really. Today will be an interesting day. It already is, as I am dealing with a slight stomach bug. I spent the last night in "fever delerium" in sweats and cold ... but I reeeeely wanted to be able to make it in today. If it was any other day, believe me, I would have called in sick, but like I said previous. today will be something else. On Monday I had the director of PR for JC stop me on the stairs and invite me to a particular party in Hollywood (!). I guess she had gotten some invites for OK! Magazine's 5th Birthday Party Bash at a swanky restaurant/lounge in Hollywood called LA Vida. So of course, I accepted!! I'm super excited as there is sure to be some celebs...

In a Dumpster in Southern California ...

I bought a new bag last week. I was looking for something large for my laptop and other stuff, mostly for work ofcourse. When we were in Canada, I had found one but didn't purchase, so it was up to me and online shopping to find the perfect bag =) I did find one and it arrived to my home on Friday. It's beautiful, leather, tan and very soft, with all the important pockets inside and out. Fully zippable and smells amazing (like leather). I brought it into Corporate JC today and I have to admit, I felt pretty good. It's amazing what a new bag can do. I even made sure the pumps I was wearing would match. It's like a new start, sort of, a new chapter in my life perhaps? After a month long hiatus with the blog, you may be wondering, why on earth I am starting off with a silly story about a new bag, but believe me, there is purpose. You see, when we had been planning to come to California, almost a year in advance, I had bought a new bag, for my laptop and all my worldl...

So, let's catch up shall we?

oh my goodness!! I seriously haven't felt this busy is quite a bit! It's the kind of busy which makes my eyes tired and my head fuzzy ... which isn't a good thing, but I had a pretty productive day today so I suppose it makes things worthwhile -- in some frame of mind. So, let the catch up begin! This last week has been a blurr of working and driving to studios (both Alan's and Cedricks) to listen to tracks, get tracks, make revisions and listen some more. We got the first real mix of one song from Cedrick on Monday and I have to say -- I listened to it oh, over 20 times. The first time I heard it, i cried ... I just couldn't believe that we sounded like that, and I had this crazy well up in my heart and I just praised God (I know that sounds lame, but that's what I did) because I can't believe how things are FINALLY seeming to come together. It was also a reminder tho, that we have a long road ahead ... everytime we drive to a studio it seems like an instan...

Beginning of Mixing

Here is just a wee tasty peek of what we did on Friday -- I had (ofcourse) gotten into my jammies, taken out my contacts and made some fresh tea when we got a call from the guy we're working with on Mixing the album, he had just gotten to the studio and was beginning to work with the song, putting final touches on things and waiting for a couple extra parts from Jay -- so I put on clothes, contacts and chugged the tea and heading 7 mins down the Pacific Coast HWY to the studio where we stayed, mixed and chatted for 5 hours (!!) I was a tired 32 yr. old when I got home -- but this album is going to be serious and I can hardly wait to hear what Cedrick (our producer and friend) will do. Cedrick works in L.A., is a ProTools instructor at a new school being built in Oceanside and he is seriously into the scene here -- He has amazing ears and a good heart, and he's french, so he's got this great accent. I will blog more in detail this coming week -- for now, here is a tease of ...
